A ministry of Broadmead Baptist Church
Celebrate Recovery is:
If you would like to know more, read the further information below, speak to one of the leaders, or come along one Friday night - newcomers are always welcome!
Meetings take place at Broadmead Baptist Church every Friday evening.
SUMMER 2010: Celebrate Recovery is taking a break this summer. The last Friday will be 23 July. Celebrate Recovery will start meeting again on Friday 10 September.
Step Study Groups are small groups that meet at a different time during the week (male and female separately) where we use workbooks to go through the steps in more detail. If, after attending Celebrate Recovery for a while, you would like to work on a specific issue in your life, you will be invited to join a group, when there is space available. You will also begin to meet with a sponsor, or mentor: someone who has already worked through the steps, who will be able to encourage and support you in your journey.
(NB. we do not offer professional or clinical advice.)
Celebrate Recovery is a 12 step programme based on the teachings of Jesus in the Bible, which can help people to overcome their “hurts, habits and hang-ups”.
Many people today are living with the effects of wounds and damage caused by wrong choices they made in the past, or by what others have done to them, sometimes years before. Often, deep-rooted issues leave people with nowhere to turn to for understanding or help. We may even be unaware of the underlying causes of the things we struggle with in the present.
Celebrate Recovery can give hope to anyone who wants to find freedom and discover the life that God intended us to live. It is designed to help us face these issues, and then take steps out of the problems and into the peace and freedom that Jesus came to give all of us.
Similar programmes often focus on a particular issue, but this covers a wide range of symptoms and strategies people often use to cope with their pain.
Many of those who have worked through the steps have gone on to become part of the team, so they can help others to take steps towards healing and wholeness.
Celebrate Recovery began in 1991 as part of the ministry of Saddleback Church, the home of ‘The Purpose Driven Life’. It is now used in thousands of churches around the world, and has proved to be effective in several places in this country after first being introduced in Derby Community Church in 1998. Tony Turner, who leads Celebrate Recovery in Derby with his wife Val, is now the UK Regional Director.

Here are a few comments from some of the people who have worked through the steps here at Broadmead:
“Celebrate Recovery is a safe place, a place to be real about how things really are.”
“At Celebrate Recovery you are free to be yourself – no-one ever says (or implies) that you shouldn't be feeling this way or struggling with these things.”
“CR has been a safe environment which God has used to reveal issues that I never knew were there.”
“It's amazing what problems you just live with and accept as normal thinking "well that's just the way I am!"”
“By helping us face our denial, and learn to work through co-dependency, our marriage has been turned around, and we have discovered so much about God's truly "amazing" grace!”
